From the coastal town of Rainbow Beach to pristine Cooloola National Park, the Cooloola area is the place to marvel at the wonders of nature. This is heavenly sub-tropical, coastal country, a fishing, boating, crabbing and bird-watching paradise. Wild dolphins swim right to the edge of the water at tranquil Tin Can Bay. 

Your outdoor adventure could be a gentle kayak trip through mangroves or a hike through the national park. Experienced hikers will love the 46.2km Cooloola Wilderness Trail, camping along the way.

You could take a thrilling beach drive from Rainbow Beach in a four-wheel-drive stopping to watch the migrating whales at Double Island Point Lighthouse and the hang gliders at Carlo Sandblow. Rainbow Beach is the gateway to the world’s largest sand island, Fraser Island. 

The city of Gympie is rich in gold rush and timber history. 

Your journey could include fossicking for gold, a heritage hunt for Victorian architecture on Mary Street or exploring the Gold Mining Museum. Or watch local craftsmen at work in the WoodWorks Forestry and Timber Museum.
